About the Author
David L. Nelson is Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He is also the Academic Program Director for university's Institute for Cross-college Biology Education.Michael M. Cox was born in Wilmington, Delaware. After graduating from the University of Delaware in 1974, Cox went to Brandeis University to do his doctoral work with William P. Jencks, and then to Stanford in 1979 for postdoctoral study with I. Robert Lehman. He moved to the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1983, and became a full professor of biochemistry in 1992. His research focuses on recombinational DNA repair processes. In addition to the work on this text, Cox is a co-author of four editions of Lehninger Principles of Biochemistry. He has received awards for both his teaching and his research, including the 1989 Eli Lilly Award in Biological Chemistry, and two major teaching awards from the University of Wisconsin and the University of Wisconsin System. Hobbies include travel, gardening, wine collecting, and assisting in the design of laboratory buildings."

DON'T GET THE 6TH EDITION.

If you're wondering whether to purchase the 5th edition or rent the 6th edition, go with the 5th edition. I have both and they are EXACTLY the same, only the 5th has a much better quality. It looks like they were in a hurry to release the 6th edition because the pictures look HORRIBLE. They're blurry, the arrows pointing at stuff are broken. Some font they use is super blurry, too. Take in mind the same images are on the 5th edition, only in the high resolution you would expect. The 6th edition was completely unnecessary in my opinion.

This book is excellent for college level biochemistry

I actually really enjoy reading this book while taking my biochemistry course in college. It explains difficult concepts very well and the diagrams/figures are awesome for understanding different biochemical processes such as glycolysis.

Easy to understand

Amazingly well-written Biochemistry text. I'm returning to the subject for a graduate course after a few years off as a student. Easy to understand, relevant illustrations, and helpful examples. My one disappointment is that the answers for end-of-chapter exercises are given but not thoroughly explained - the accompanying guidebook needs to be purchased if you want to know how to solve the problems. Other than that, this resource is exemplary!
