Good reference book

A nice, easy to read quick field guide for fossil hunters. The small size makes it easy to tuck into a backpack or glove box for reference while hunting fossils. You need a good assortment of books to help identify your finds and this is an excellent addition to your bookshelf.

I kept putting this book in and out of my cart because i thought that i would be disappointed. I ordered it finally and i was thrilled that it is a really good book! The picture plates were very sharp and detailed and the information about each plate was interesting and enlightening as it gave me a look into the far past. i am a beginner but those more experienced may still enjoy this guide to fossils!

This book has some nice features such as geologic maps of the US. It has respectable coverage of invertebrate fossils with over 400 entries. On the other hand the coverage of pant and vertebrate fossils is lacking. There are 21 entries for plant fossils, 15 for vertebrates and 15 trace fossils.
