Succinct, very readable and full of valuable research findings

This is an excellent introduction to the field of SLA, it is relatively short for such a broad field but little space is wasted. The book introduces topics such as the differences between L1 and L2 learning, the effects of individual differences on language learning (including age, personality, motivation, intelligence and identity), second language acquisition theories (including behaviorist, cognitive and social perspectives as well as the usual input vs output debates), and research on the differences between natural and classroom based learning environments as well as the usefulness of grammar instruction. The authors finish the book by looking at what research has to say about certain widely held language learning beliefs such as 'the younger the better' and so on.

I found this book both interesting and full of insights from research that can be applied practically as a language learner and teacher. Highly recommended.

A great book for anyone who teaches or assists in teaching languages...

Wow! This book is packed with important, in-depth, and applicable information about how people learn languages. If you are involved in teaching languages or simply have an interest in the subject, I highly recommend this book. I have only recently begun tutoring adult ESL (English as a Second Language) learners, and have been able to apply what I have learned to the tutoring sessions. Highly Recommended!

a very good beginner's book in SLA

This is one my favorite coursebooks in SLA. The book is helpful for those who begin to feel interested in SLA or for teachers who intend to teach a course in language learning. It's very comprehensive and easy to understand. Different opinions from studies on a same topic are offered. Most importantly, it offers fair comments on different theories. This 4th edition also offers good online resources for teachers to conduct discussions on relative topics.

Good edutainment!

My wife is Persian and I have been learning Farsi here and there for the last couple of years. This book is exactly what I was looking for... each idiom has

- the Farsi spelling of each idiom _including_ the vowel marks, which normally are left out
- the transliteration just to double-check your pronunciation
- the English explanation of each phrase
- a sample usage
- and yes, last but not least, the cartoons, which are definitely smile-inducing.

It is not a huge book, but I am learning slowly so there is enough material in here to keep me busy for the rest of the year.

It will be difficult for a novice to follow this book alone. If you have already taken an introductory course in Farsi, or if you have a significant other/teacher to help you along and explain the conjugations etc, then it is actually a good learning aid, true to its title.

Amazing past life.......

If there was ever a book that was written truly from the heart, then this is it.
The joy and the many spiritual lessons I got from reading it are beyond words. It is as relevant now as it was when the book is set, time has no meaning........
Many times while reading it I laughed along with Master Hotei.
I cannot recommend this book highly enough, beautifully written, with insight to light the path for the amazing times ahead.......

This uniquely fascinating book is a little gem that holds a big surprise. It consists entirely of the past life memories of the author, an autobiography of a previous existence lived in ancient China, and documented by Ms. LeFay after a series of unfolding and undeniable recollections. Nothing but 5th Dimensional love for this book!

I was so moved by this book that I wrote to Denise La Fey personally. This was my letter to her:

Denise,

I finished reading the Temple of Master Hotei last night. Thank you for writing this beautiful memory and sharing it. This is up there as one of my favorite books ever. I instantly connected on a very deep heart level. Each night I would read a chapter before I went to bed. When I read "stories" I usually connect with characters. But this, this was a completely different experience. I knew that Master Hotei was real and One like Jade as well. I felt it in my deep heart. I could actually feel the personality of Master Hotei reaching out. I laughed and cried so much throughout the book. I have never had a teacher or guide. But I felt like Master Hotei was teaching me too. I think to anyone else this would sound really strange. But I feel this overwhelming love in my heart.

My higher self led me to order the book at just the right time. Looking forward to reading this book each night has helped me through some really rough times of feeling so alone that its almost unbearable. This book has really given me something to hold on to. And I cannot thank you enough.

Today I decided to take a little trip to a local shop that i've been meaning to go to. Its a shop that sells goods by all local artists creations, pottery, paintings, etc... As I was browsing around I looked up and saw a statue that seemed REALLY out of place. And what do ya know....its was a statue of the laughing buddha, with the dragon above his head. I wanted to cry to be honest, and laugh. :-) I don't believe this was a coincidence and thought you would appreciate it.

I'm actually going to read the Temple of Master Hotei again, because there was so much wonderful wisdom within the book and I find great comfort in it.

These aren't your Black Mountain dragons

I wondered how Marcy Jacks would continue to keep the Of Dragons and Wolves series going? What was she going to do to keep readers interested? She did so by introducing a new clan of dragons from Crystal Mountain. The CM high dragon after consulting with the Black Mountain high dragon Aris, believes his Crystal Mountain clan can also benefit from matings with the wolves of the Murphy pack. A pack that their clan has been at war with for many decades.

Clyde Murphy is a mean deceitful crazy alpha. But he is a clever and vicious wolf who hates dragons. He treated omegas with callous disregard. Especially widowed omegas and others he felt he had no use for. He was able to coerce several to do his bidding as "sacrificial" mates to accompany the dragons back up the mountain. His fake peace treaty is revealed in a spectacular manner. Blowing his sabotage plans sky high. But like any villain worth his salt he he begins plotting his retaliation immediately.

The fake treaty just confirmed the high dragon's second in command's (Iver's) worse fears that the whole thing was a set up based on revenge sought by the nasty alpha for a generational hatred. Since Clyde Murphy was responsible for the torture of Iver and the death of Iver's father. The absolute last thing that Iver wants is a wolf mate. Even with the high dragon's reassurances that Iver won't be faced to mate with one of the creatures that he despises, Iver is very unhappy with the plan.

With so much going on you almost forget that the high dragon went down to the Murphy pack to find a mate. Well he certainly managed to do so in the splashiest spectacle possible. The High dragon can't wait to get the small wolf who risked everything to save the Crystal Mountain clan, the Murphy omegas, and himself up the mountain. And all that is in the first chapter. Get ready, get set, go! There's still an unwanted mate. Someone who is disgusted. Disdainful. Very vocal. And a heart gets broken. There are several new dragon's and wolves introduced in the twelfth installment of this series: Leon Iver Duncan Cameron Joey Jimmy Quinten. I can't wait to experience their stories.

The read you read when you've had a hard day at the office

I've already written a few reviews for Ms. Jacks and they have all been positive. I do like this book, I like the characters (for the most part, some of them I wanted to shake a bit) but my biggest...well...gripe is that there is too much sex (I know right?!?). There is a plot in the book but the sex gets in the way sometimes and it seems like it's being used as a filler to make the story longer rather than deeper (see the pun there?).So now that I'm done with that gripe I can get on with the rest of my review - basically this is a shifter, male/male version of a harlequin romance. The plot is straightforward and you can see then ending fairly quickly but it's a nice read without the angst that can come from some books - you know, this is the read you read when you've had a hard day at the office and don't want additional drama through a book.

The story was way to short and nothing was resolved it was a waste of time andd i returned it. I'm giving it two stars because it has potentially there was a goos story to tell the author juat didnt tell it. There was a story line with two other males that never gets talked about or resolved. The price was a joke for being 100 pages. I can go in and on. I do not recommend this book at all
