The text is well organized, objectives are laid out in a manner that is easy for students to follow, and the graphs and illustrations help illustrate points judiciously, rather than just as filler. Information is relevant and the writing is at an appropriate level.

The material is well written and presented to the reader. I like the word list for each chapter, the end of the chapter activities, and the chapter organization.

About the Author
Cliff Ricketts holds a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Education and a Masters of Education (Administration and Supervision) from the University of Tennessee. He received his PhD in Agricultural and Teacher Education from Ohio State University. The winner of several prestigious awards (including AGR Agricultural Teacher of the Year and FFA Blue & Gold Award), Dr. Ricketts has taught a wide variety of Agricultural Education and Teaching Methods courses over his fifteen-year career. He is currently a Professor of Agricultural Education in the Department of Agribusiness and Agriscience at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

Kristina G. Ricketts was born and raised in Lincoln, Nebraska. Upon graduating from high school, she pursued and graduated with a degree in Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communication from the University of Nebraska- Lincoln. Continuing in the academic line, she moved to Gainesville, Florida and received a Master's degree in 2003, and a Ph.D. in 2005- both from the University of Florida, within the field of agricultural leadership, collaborative leadership and youth leadership development. She is presently an Assistant Professor within the Department of Agricultural Extension Education at the University of Kentucky.

Not Impressed and bored.

As this author is one of my favorites, I was very disappointed in this book. Technically, the book is well written and her world-building skills are impressive. However, this was boring and trite. The addition of the time-travel sends the connection to the original series into left field. It was tortuous reading. Slogged through it the first time and then set it aside not even being sure what I read. Picked it up AGAIN quite a while later to re-read to determine if my first read was an accurate rendition of my opinion. Unfortunately, it was. Could not even finish it the second time.
I am not deleting it from my Kindle because it is an addition to a series but doubt that I will try a third re-read (and this is from an avid and voracious re-reader). This has also made me hesitant about the next book in the series.

Awesome series!

The Thousand Worlds of Ms. Phillips are such wonderful places to read about. Her phenomenal worldbuilding is outstanding in this genre, and her complex and interesting characters continue to populate those worlds for our reading enjoyment. Her addition of time travel makes this installment in the continuing Jasani tales open up entirely new inroads for even more adventures for those characters, both the familiar ones and the new ones we meet in this book. Having read all of her previous books, I can honestly say she always brings something new and fresh to her storylines, and I've never been left disappointed. I'd give Rayne's Return more than 5 stars if I could, it is that good. I highly recommend ALL of Ms. Phillips' books, and I am really looking forward to Salene's story.

Excellent Coffee Table Collection of Camus Memorabilia

This is a coffee table book, but an interesting and valuable one for fans of Albert Camus. It contains many valuable photos and reproductions of documents. Compiled by Camus' daughter Catherine, the book has an obvious "authenticity." There's not a great dea of critical interpretation, but this is a valuable and enjoyable book for those who consider Camus one of the twentieth-century's most important philosophical voices.

An impressive collection of photographs, letters, and ephemera from the life of Albert Camus

Albert Camus and George Orwell are curiously paired. Of prominent twentieth-century literary figures, they are perhaps the two most known for political conscience and intellectual integrity. Their lives were only a decade off from being coterminous (Orwell, 1903-1950; Camus, 1913-1960). Both died at the age of forty-six. Both had tuberculosis. Orwell died from the disease, whereas Camus died in an automobile accident. Each is worth knowing -- his life, his writing, and his thought.

With regard to Camus, the book at hand, ALBERT CAMUS: SOLIDARITY & SOLITUDE, should NOT be the vehicle by which one is introduced to his life, writing, and thought. On the other hand, for those already knowledgeable about the man, especially those who already respect him, the book should certainly enhance that knowledge and respect.

A large-format book (worthy of a coffee table), it contains all sorts of photographs, letters, quotes, and ephemera relating to Albert Camus. It begins with a photo of the farm in Algeria where he was born, a copy of his birth certificate, and a picture of Albert, not yet one year old, when his father went off to fight in the Great War (he was killed within a month). One of the last photographs is the car, wrapped around a tree, in which Camus and his good friend Michel Gallimard were killed; the very last photograph is a wonderful one of Camus in a sunny caf� with his arm draped around the shoulder of Gallimard. In between, there are photographs of Camus in his native Algeria, at "Combat", with his wife Francine and his children Catherine and Jean, in the theater in connection with the numerous plays he wrote and/or directed, in Stockholm receiving the Nobel Prize for Literature, etc. There also are photographs of friends and a few historical ones that help set context. In addition, there are numerous copies of original documents, from letters to and from Camus to newspaper articles to book jacket covers to even an Algerian lottery ticket bought by Camus and his wife. And on most pages there are one or more excerpts from the writings of Camus that relate in some manner to the images; most of these excerpts are from his Notebooks or diaries or lesser-known writings, as opposed to the works for which he is best known.

The book is somewhat cluttered, perhaps inevitably given its scrapbook-like nature. Even so, some sort of overarching expository narrative about Camus would have been possible and helpful. As it is, the photographs, excerpts, and quotes pop up rather haphazardly, albeit (roughly) chronologically.

Nonetheless, there are many gems amidst the hodgepodge. Among the photographs, for example, is one from 1944 of a group of twelve people assembled in Pablo Picasso's studio for a reading of a play written by Picasso and directed by Camus, including Picasso, Camus, Jean-Paul Sartre, and Simone de Beauvoir. Notable among the quoted excerpts is this one relating to "The Stranger" from a letter Camus wrote in 1954: "['The Stranger'] is neither realism nor fantasy. I see it rather as a myth in the form of a person, but deeply rooted in the physicality and intensity of everyday life. People have tried to see in it a new kind of anti-morality, which is utterly wrong." I also was struck by the following: "Faced with the world as it is, I simply do not want to lie or be lied to."

As an account of Camus's life, however, there are gaps and there are distortions. One example revolves around Camus's inveterate womanizing, which is barely hinted at. There are many photographs of Camus and the Spanish actress Maria Casar�s, but no mention of the fact that they maintained a sixteen-year affair. There is a quote from another actress, Catherine Sellers -- "He was not a seducer, he was a seductive man, which is not the same thing at all" -- that elides the fact that she appeared in his bed as well as in his plays. One photograph of Camus and his attractive wife Francine bears the caption "Francine and Albert supported and stood by each other throughout their lives" -- a tad disingenuous given that Francine was so unhinged by Camus's repeated infidelities that she twice attempted suicide. Of course, the person most responsible for ALBERT CAMUS: SOLITUDE & SOLIDARITY is Catherine Camus, daughter of Albert and Francine, and it is understandable that she would gloss over her parents' troubles. But even beyond that, the book carries with it a whiff of hagiography.

Universal existentialist

'In the midst of winter, I felt within me an invincible summer' Albert Camus, the existentialist declared. This French existentialist writer left behind an outstanding collection of books and essays, published and (at the time of his death at the age of 46 in 1950), unpublished. 'Albert Camus: Solitude & Solidarity' is a pictorial biography by Catherine Camus, his daughter from his marriage to Francine. It is a book of extreme elegance, and evokes nostalgia for Camus fans because it contains so many photographs of Camus in all his activities, writing, contemplation, and play. It also contains photographs of letters and notes handwritten as well as typewritten by Camus. Every photograph is described in detail by Catherine Camus. Does Camus inspire? 'No one can really die in peace if he has not done all he can to help others live', he wrote. Yet we don't carry this into action often enough, thus illuminating Camus' pessimistic outlook. Even before the middle of the twentieth century he observed that '[I]t is no longer enough being just and generous that makes us. It is being successful.' Unfortunately, too many people take that as an exhortation and fail to see it as a lamentation.

Blimey....more rousing War Stories...and a touch of the Rat Patrol!

More "pulps"from the UK. The stories in all thes little paper bound books are culled from the pages of the COMMANDOS series of comic like books from the sixties and seventies. Amazon imports and offers these works at great value to the buyer. Service is quick and dependable. This series needs no rehashing on my part explaining them. See other reviews...you're interested or you wouldn't be reading my review!
True to its title, the three stories in this volume deal with fighting in the North African desert areas in WWII. SAS and LRDG stories...and a surprising one that puts British, Italian, and Germans together against a common and evil foe. With a twist or two of humerous dialog! Not bad...take a look for yourself...you probably won't be disappointed!

About the Author
Thierry Lestable received his Engg. Degree and Ph.D from the Ecole Sup�rieure d'Electricit� (Supelec) in 1997 and 2003 respectively. He has more than 12 years experience in leading edge Wireless Telecommunications, is author of 40+ international publications, including 2 Wiley Books, and 25+ patents. Since 2008, Dr. Lestable has been Technology & Innovation Manager at SAGEMCOM (Paris, France), in charge of Technology Strategy and Roadmap within CTO office.

Dr. Lestable is expert for the European Commission (FP7), and Eureka Cluster CELTIC, whilst chairing the Machine-to-Machine (M2M) Expert Group in eMobility European Technology Platform. He is the Project Manager of FP7-BeFEMTO project targeting next generation LTE-based Femtocells, and initiated the FP7-EXALTED project dedicated to LTE-based M2M communications. Since 2010, he has been a member of the Telecom Steering Board from System@tic Competitiveness Cluster in France.

Within Alcatel labs (1998-2003), he investigated Multi-Carrier Wireless Systems paving the way for 4G Chinese systems with FuTURE 863 projects. Then, from 2004, Dr. Lestable was with Samsung Electronics Research Institute (SERI), UK, heading the Advanced Technology Group focusing on Advanced Channel Coding (LDPC), Iterative processing and Cross-Layer for MIMO-OFDM based systems. He actively contributed to IEEE 802.16m, and 802.20 standards, whilst participating in European research projects (FP6-WINNER), and creating FP7-DAVINCI Consortium.

Moshe Ran holds a PhD from Tel Aviv University, and has been the head of research and development authority at Holon Institute of Technology (HIT) since 2009. He has 25 years experience in state of the art communications systems and has lead R&D groups in several communication topics including: broadband access technologies, 3G and 4G systems, Short-range communications with focus on Ultra-wideband (UWB) technologies, error correction codes.

Dr. Ran formerly held prominent management and technical positions including CEO of MostlyTek Ltd. He has been an active member in standards bodies and technology-related partnerships including: IEEE802.16, ETSI/BRAN and WWRF. He was the project manager and coordinator of IST-FP6 STREP project named UROOF, targeting UWB over optical fibre for next generation broadband communications. He is a senior member of IEEE and has published more than 60 technical international publications and papers in the areas of error control coding and broadband wireless/wireline integration.

About the Author
Christopher Mannino's life is best described as an unending creative outlet. �He teaches high school theatre in Greenbelt, Maryland. �In addition to his daily drama classes, he runs several after-school performance/production drama groups. �He spends his summers writing and singing. �Mannino holds a Master of Arts in Theatre Education from Catholic University, and has studied mythology and literature both in America and at Oxford University. �His work with young people helped inspire him to write young adult fantasy, although it was his love of reading that truly brought his writing to life.

Too Good to Put Down

This YA fantasy book was too good to put down. I devoured it in two days. I'm not typically a young adult reader (even though I loved the Book Thief). But this one caught my attention right away and kept it.

Many reviewers talked about it being reminiscent of Harry Potter.I felt it was more reminiscent to the Hunger Games without the children killing children. I can imagine the staging and special effects were it ever to become a movie.

The thirteen-year-old female protagonist captured my heart right away. She was determined and yet vulnerable. I trusted she'd make the right decisions in the many twists and turns she faced.

The author dealt with a number of young adult issues--self image, cliques, competition, test anxiety, loneliness, bullying and more. He uses his fertile creative mind to deal with these issues in most unusual and captivating ways.

Suzie lands in a new world--a world without other woman. She must cope and deal with the taunts and challenges of the others because she is special. The book is fraught with mystery. Just as you think one mystery is solved another crops up. That keeps the suspense going and the pages turning.

I do suspect we will see more of Suzie in future works by Mr. Mannino. Like with the Hunger Games, the School of Deaths is the beginning for a very likable female lead.

I will recommend this book for anyone looking for an entertaining summer read--young adult or otherwise!

I just couldn't put the book down

I enjoyed reading this book because it reminds me of the Harry Potter series.
There are some parallels such as:
Boskery = Quidditch
School of Deaths = Hogwarts
etc. I think that if you liked Harry Potter, you might actually enjoy reading this book.

The main character is Suzie. People think there's something wrong with her because of how she looks. Once she arrives at the School of Deaths, she learns about what was happening to her and this other new world she never knew existed. The school trains people like Suzie to become a reaper. Technically, what we know of the "Grim Reaper" is referred to as a "Death" in this story. The only problem is that she's female and everybody in this world is male. Because of this, she becomes the subject of ridicule despite having good friends along the way.

The series seems promising and I'm excited to read the next book. I liked the journey throughout the novel when Suzie learns about the other beings in a world of Deaths. What I liked the least is not being able to know the depth of her relationship between her family and friends in the beginning of the novel. I wished there was more to it before she left.

Overall, I actually liked this book because it was unique and interesting to read.
I would recommend this to fans of Harry Potter and those who like to read fantasy novels in general.

Looking forward to the next installment!

As a Harry Potter/LOTR fan, and a not necessarily-so-young-adult, this book was extremely enjoyable. The concept was surprising, playing with the concept of plural deaths instead of one grim reaper, placing it in a comfortable context as a coming of age/magical school setting. Main character “Suzie” was relatable and grows from insecure young girl in foreign world, to strong young woman learning about her heritage and accepting her powers (who doesn’t like that kind of story!). Also, the reader becomes curious about future development of the character. For me, personally, the very tame romance between Billy and Suzie could be explored in more depth (even for a YA novel). Their emotional connection is merely touched from the surface, and their chemistry seems slightly lacking, but since this was a main theme in the book, it is quite understandable. This might occur in the second instalment, which I haven’t completed as of yet, but I will be sure to do in the future!
